It's a big lie in Thai history books which leads to many conflicts in the region. I hope someday Thailand take a second look about their invented history. I think the UN could have say, too, in regard to Thailand history, because it does harbor hatred and anmimosity in the region. The history would be derived from facts not fictions as Thailand has in their history books.

During my study in Thailand, I have one closed Thai friend. He told me that Thais are very confused in term of history, because the one they study tells about the glory of Thai kings and twist some importent past events. This history has written by the Chakry Dynasty and Thai leaders in the political purposes. However, the post graduated student who study history as a specialist, can do a research on the truth.If campare to all the Thai population, they are less number..., and after know the truth, they can not say anything because they think of their national interests too.
In short, Thais are confused nation!!!
Land of the Khmer Empire is like the whole cake. After that Thailand snatched from Khmers by using dirty tricks. Khmer Empire welcomed to all ethnics escaped from the Mongol invasion included Thai, Lao, Viet, Chinese and Cham in between 1270 to 1283. The world historical book is also written that the whole of Thailand today was belong to the Khmers for thousands years.
Ban Chiang in Udorthany is also a historical site of the Khmer-Mon. The regime, led by Pol Pot, changed the official name of the country to Democratic Kampuchea, and was heavily influenced and backed by China. Hi, I am also Khmer. Just wanna say something here. Look guys... Thais or Khmers... everyone. Each of us thinks that we are right, and the others who have opposite idea are wrong. Alright, according to History, as I have studied, both world and khmer history (u can search on website by yourself. I don't need to write all of them down), Khmer is Khmer, Khmer used to have its own land cover both the belonging land now and some other area surrounded. OK, that's what I know, and I think it is true. However, Thai people think differently because they know about their nation's history from a very different source. I don't know what proof or clue that leads to what Thai people know as their history now, but it's a history for them. They should have some proofs to clarify this. Whatever... but please everyone, if you continue to hate, it'll never end. Hatred only gives birth to more hatred. Whatever happened in the past, it's over, and those things happened between our ancestors. Any kind of bad things, like war, hatred... we should not let it get over us. I know that right now, both Khmer and Thai government are staying on an unstable relationship, or we can say "in the middle of dispute". Alright, but it doesn't mean that people of both countries should allow themselves to be carried by the flame of this hatred. Unfortunately, that doesn't work.. hahahaha... do you think only some thai politicians know about this? I guess you normal citizens don't even know this.. I'm so shocked to read this. I'm thai and i gotta said i never hate khmer or think that we are the best in the world and look down on other countries. I agree with some comments that why you just think about history? Better go develop the country now. Our history is different. We don't care much about Angkor Wat or whatever. Don't think that ALL thai ppl want to get it so bad....no and not ALL thais think it belonged to us but got stolen. this is still a conflict in our country. Many thai historians insist that Angkor Wat was never ours. The conflict happened between leaders and politicians. And why do we all have to fight or hate each other? But the stupid map didn't show that... the temple itself can only be accessed from the Cambodia side, it only shows that the temple locates on the mountain in a Thai area. (a few meters above Thai's ground I suppose?)

I don't really know how much your Thailand had donated to Cambodia but I had heard that the previous donation agreements from Thailand to Cambodia were canceled by Cambodian government. I agreed that Cambodia is a poor country and we need honest donation for richer country. We, however, don't agree or cannot accept those who try to steal our land again and again.
2. Khmer beggar: I cannot say if MOST of Khmers who are in Thailand are beggars. It may be true as we are in poor country. We had suffered lots of wars within country. Hahahahah...This is funny!! The Siams really don't know history and you can ask some educated Thais and scholars and they will tell you the same thing that Thailand belongs to Cambodia once upon a time. I feel pity for you cuz cambodian can't think and can't do what they should do.

i talked the other day with some Thais & Cambodian friends - (international students), and both sides states that clearly, "understanding" each other's system is important in order to solve conflicts. Because in the end, decisions are made from the top of the hierarchy, thus - how can individuals make themselves heard without being prosecuted?
Also, I talked to one local in the area where they engaged in gunfights, (he fled to bangkok), he said that actually, who (in with their senses intact) wants these kinds of conflicts? Politicians? People whom seek power over others? Governments?
Calm down people, and start thinking - and if you really wish to do something, you can always start by buying a plane ticket then start conducting your own research and interviewing people. Its fun, I promise.
