  • PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA, FEB 23, 2011- Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong said on Wednesday that the decision from the ASEANForeign Minister ´s meeting on Feb 22 over the border issues between Cambodia and Thailand is what we need.

ASEAN will send its 30 observers (15 in each side respectively) to monitor permanent ceasefire,” the minister told reporters at the Phnom Penh airtport upon the arrival from Jakarta.

The observers will report about the situation of the border issues to the ASEAN chairman,” the minister said, adding that the period of the observers depends on “obvious” situation.

Border committees will be held unless Thai side ratifies the three notes in the previous meetings,” he said, adding that the border committees will have the witness from the ASEAN.

Thai troops invaded Cambodia on July 15, 2008 and fresh deadly armed clashes occurred on Feb 4-7, leading the local people from both sides fled from home and evacuated for safety.

This morning, Lok Chum Teav Bun Rany, wife of PM Hun Sen appealed local people to go back home. She was present at the border and met with troops, and distributed gifts for the local people.
